Maple Ridge, B.C. – January 1, 2025 — Ridge Meadows Hospital welcomed its first baby girl of the new year in the early hours of January 1st, 2025, bringing joy to her proud parents and hospital staff alike.
Born at 3:12 a.m., baby Amelia Grace Thompson weighed in at 7 pounds, 4 ounces. She is the first baby girl — and one of the first babies overall — to be born at the hospital this year, ringing in 2025 with hope and happiness.
Her parents, Jessica and Daniel Thompson of Pitt Meadows, say the moment was surreal.
“We couldn’t have imagined a better start to the new year,” said Jessica, smiling as she held her newborn daughter. “Amelia is healthy, beautiful, and already very curious about the world around her.”
The staff at Ridge Meadows Hospital says the birth brought a special energy to the maternity ward. Nurses and doctors offered warm congratulations to the family and noted how symbolic the arrival of a baby girl on New Year’s Day can be.
“There’s something deeply moving about witnessing new life come into the world right as the year begins,” said head nurse Karen McAllister. “It reminds us that every year brings fresh starts, and Amelia’s arrival is a beautiful example of that.”
Jessica’s labor progressed smoothly, and the delivery was without complications. As a small token of celebration, hospital staff presented the family with a congratulatory gift basket filled with baby essentials and a hand-knitted pink hat donated by a local volunteer group.
The Thompsons say they’re looking forward to introducing Amelia to her big brother, 3-year-old Noah, who is already excited to meet his new sister.
“He’s been telling everyone he’s getting a baby sister,” Daniel laughed. “He just doesn’t know she decided to show up right on New Year’s Day.”
As the community of Maple Ridge welcomes its newest resident, Amelia’s birth is a reminder of the joy and promise that come with every new beginning.
Welcome to the world, Amelia Grace. You’re already making history.
